When Charlie awoke, the air around him was thin and with hate. He knew that after last night, his friend nor his family would be ok. As he got out of his bed, the memories of last night pour into his head. He tries to restrain but they still pour in. The fight, Ben’s broken leg, and most of all, his father’s death. As he walks down the hall, a small tear rolls down his cheek. Then another, and another. He waits for his mother to appear as he eats breakfast, but she never does. Charlie goes to see if his mother could possibly be in her bedroom still. He opens her parent’s bedroom door slowly, hoping to see his mother. The door is now fully open, but there’s nobody in the room. With his head down, Charlie walks back into the kitchen to call Ben. Ben has been his best friend since they were in kindergarden. 7 years later he’s still as trustworthy as he always has been. As he dials his number he restrains himself from letting another tear fall down his red cheek. After two rings, Ben picks up the phone. “Hello?” Ben says softly into the phone. “Hey Ben, it’s me, Charlie,” he responds. “I am so happy to hear from you. I have some more information about last night,” Ben says happily. “How about you come over and we can talk. Sound good?” “Yeah, I’ll be there in 10 minutes,” Charlie says before hanging up. He walks back down the hall into his room where. Charlie puts on some clean clothes and heads out of his apartment. After making a couple turns, and going by many rooms, he finds the elevator. The ground level is only one floor below him, but he’s too tired to walk down stairs. He presses the button for level 1, and he starts to go down. As the doors fling open and ding, Charlie steps out of the elevator, and starts his small journey to Ben’s house. The chirping of birds chirping makes him relax more, and more as he keeps walking. He always liked walking around his small town, especially in the early mornings when the only people in town are the one’s opening their stores. He loves his little town he lives in, and he could never imagine moving away. “Knock Knock,” Charlie says when he reached Ben’s house. The door swings open, and Ben’s happy face is at the other side. “Come on in,” Ben says as Charlie walks in and takes his sneakers off.
